U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets addressing former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and a Supreme Court case regarding birthright citizenship.
On March 31, 2026, Jayapal wrote: “Trump did that.” Later the same day, she expanded on her criticism of Trump-era immigration enforcement, stating: “Kids should be focused on going to school and playing with their friends, not living in fear that their parents will be kidnapped by ICE. Listen to Nicole Isern’s heartbreaking testimony about how Trump’s cruelty has impacted the kids and families she works with.”
The following day, April 1, Jayapal commented on Supreme Court oral arguments concerning an executive order from former President Trump seeking to end birthright citizenship. She tweeted: “Today, the Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments on Trump’s executive order to eliminate birthright citizenship. The president does not get to decide who is a citizen on a whim — the Constitution does. It’s simple: if you’re born in the United States, you’re a citizen.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
