U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account on December 17, 2025, addressing issues related to immigration policy and health care legislation.
In one tweet posted at 14:34 UTC, Jayapal criticized former President Trump’s approach to the H-1B visa system, writing: “Trump’s attacks on the H-1B visa system will mean that our country loses scientists, researchers, and new innovations that drive our economy and communities. We should be reforming our legal immigration system, not destroying it.”
Later the same day at 15:54 UTC, Jayapal commented on legislative activity regarding health care premiums: “Speaker Johnson refuses to bring a bill to the House Floor to lower health care premiums for millions of Americans. Democrats are forcing a vote.”
In a subsequent tweet at 17:38 UTC, she addressed enforcement actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the Trump administration: “Trump’s ICE is going after immigrants who are VOLUNTARILY leaving the U.S. and sending them to inhumane detention centers. Why? Just so they can funnel more money into private, for-profit prisons. The cruelty is the point.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott in Congress. Prior to her tenure in the House of Representatives, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
