U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has recently criticized former President Donald Trump and Republican policies in a series of posts on social media. Her comments address issues ranging from deportation practices to proposed cuts in federal agencies and healthcare programs.

On August 24, 2025, Jayapal posted: “From CECOT, to Guantanamo Bay, to war-torn countries — Trump’s third party deportations are unbelievably cruel. We cannot stand for these violations of human rights.”

The following day, on August 25, she commented on potential changes to Medicaid: “Trump and Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid will directly cause more preventable deaths in communities across America. It’s cruel, inhumane, and unimaginable — and it’s all in service of a giant tax break for the richest corporations and billionaires.”

Later that same day, Jayapal addressed reported funding reductions at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA): “FEMA employees say that Trump’s cuts to the agency are catastrophic and could cause a disaster on the level of Hurricane Katrina. That means thousands of potential deaths and entire communities destroyed. Reverse the cuts and protect the American people.”

Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle. She is an alumna of Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
