U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on July 17, 2025, criticizing actions taken by former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers regarding immigration data sharing, targeting of nonprofits, and foreign aid cuts.
In her first post at 17:08 UTC, Jayapal wrote: “This is about the weaponization of data, full stop. Trump said he would go after the ‘worst of the worst’ immigrants, yet now is giving ICE EVERYONE’s Medicaid data, even as ICE targets U.S. citizens. Oh, and undocumented immigrants can’t even enroll in Medicaid.”
Later that day at 18:22 UTC, she addressed actions against nonprofit organizations: “Trump’s DHS and Republicans are going after hundreds of nonprofits and charities, just because they disagree with them. 600 of them are standing together and speaking out against these attacks. I’m with them.”
At 19:04 UTC on the same day, Jayapal criticized proposed permanent cuts to USAID funding: “Trump’s cuts to USAID have already killed hundreds of thousands of people across the world. Making these cuts permanent, as the GOP plans to do today, will halt critical disease prevention, take food from children and mothers, and kill millions.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Her academic background includes degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
