U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on her social media account criticizing former President Donald Trump and Republican policies.

On September 4, 2025, Jayapal called attention to recent Republican tax proposals. She wrote, “REMINDER: Trump and Republicans’ ‘no tax on tips’ is a giant SCAM. It locks out countless tipped workers and expires in just two years. But the tax breaks they passed for their billionaire buddies? Those are permanent.”

Later that day, she addressed a federal court decision regarding military deployment during protests. Jayapal stated, “ICYMI: A federal judge ruled that Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles was illegal. This was a weaponization of the military against Americans by a wannabe dictator. The administration must not take similar actions in other cities.”

In another post on September 4, 2025, Jayapal commented on immigration policy changes affecting Venezuelan families. She wrote, “Statue of Liberty: ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.’ Trump: takes away legal status from hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan families who are here fleeing Venezuela’s violent dictatorship. Inhumane and cruel.”

Pramila Jayapal has served as the U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before joining Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
