U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has posted a series of statements on social media criticizing recent actions by former President Donald Trump and his administration regarding environmental and social policies.
On September 12, 2025, Jayapal expressed support for ongoing legal efforts to defend environmental protections in the Columbia Basin. She wrote, “I stand with the Tribal Nations, environmental groups & state govts that are standing up to Trump’s attacks on protections for our salmon populations, ecosystem health, and communities. Glad that the litigation to protect the Resilient Columbia Basin Agreement will continue.”
The following day, Jayapal addressed changes announced by the Environmental Protection Agency under Trump’s leadership. In her post dated September 13, 2025, she stated: “Trump’s EPA is rolling back a 15 year old program that requires corporations to report their greenhouse gas emissions. This ‘cost saving’ measure will just allow massive corporations to poison our air with no consequences. It’s absolutely unacceptable.”
Later on September 13, Jayapal commented on broader policy shifts affecting social services in Washington State and nationwide. She said: “Trump and Republicans are stealing health care, food assistance, and raising energy costs with their Big Bad Betrayal — in WA State and across the country.”
Pramila Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras), India in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
