U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal used her social media platform on November 4, 2025, to criticize recent cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), attributing them to former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers.
In a post from the early morning of November 4, Jayapal stated: “There should not be hunger in the richest country on the planet. But when there is hunger, we have a moral obligation to feed those who are hungry. That’s why my staff and I joined @CommunityLunch today to provide those struggling from Trump’s SNAP cuts with hot meals.” She emphasized her participation in local efforts to assist those affected by these changes.
Later that same day, she reiterated her position regarding SNAP benefits and policy decisions made under Trump’s administration. On November 4 at 02:14 UTC, Jayapal posted: “Let me be very clear: Donald Trump deliberately chose to stop SNAP benefits from flowing to 42 million hungry Americans. And this is after he and Republicans cut $186 billion from SNAP in their Big Bad Betrayal Bill. They are simply abandoning hungry American families.”
By the afternoon of November 4, Jayapal contrasted what she described as hardship for many Americans with reports of Trump’s activities over the weekend. She wrote: “ICYMI: As millions of Americans wonder how they’ll keep food on the table, Trump spent the weekend throwing himself a lavish party at Mar-A-Lago. The party theme was ‘A Little Party Never Killed Nobody.’ While a party might not, his cuts to SNAP could.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate between 2014 and 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
