Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently used her social media platform to criticize former President Donald Trump and Republican policies on voting and foreign affairs.
On March 24, 2026, Jayapal highlighted what she described as inconsistency in Trump’s stance on mail-in voting. She posted: “Yesterday, Donald Trump called mail-in voting ‘cheating.’ But he literally just VOTED BY MAIL in a Florida special election happening today. The hypocrisy is staggering. He actively wants to stop people from voting who don’t support Republicans.”
Later that day, Jayapal addressed proposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and criticized military spending under Trump. She wrote: “Thanks to Trump and Republicans’ Big Bad Betrayal and their $186 BILLION cut to SNAP, more than 70,000 people will die. Instead of pouring billions of dollars into Trump’s illegal war with Iran, we should be helping our neighbors.”
On March 25, 2026, Jayapal reiterated her opposition to increased military engagement in Iran by stating: “This is not an excursion. This is war. Congress must stop Trump from ramping up his war in Iran and block his request for $200 billion. Regime change efforts do not work and will cost lives.”
Jayapal has served in Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
