Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently used her social media platform to criticize former President Donald Trump and highlight several current political issues.
On July 17, 2025, Jayapal commented on Trump’s reaction to calls for the release of the Epstein files, stating, “Trump is calling his supporters ‘weaklings’ for wanting the Epstein files released. Sounds pretty defensive to me! If you’ve got nothing to hide, release the files.”
Later that day, she addressed a series of policy concerns in another post: “HHS layoffs, gutting of the Education Department, Americans hate Trump’s immigration policies, and a lawsuit over school funds. Here are three bad things and three good things you need to know about to keep up your fight and stay engaged!” The tweet alludes to ongoing debates about federal agency funding and contentious immigration policies.
In a subsequent message posted on July 17, Jayapal expressed strong opposition to proposed budget cuts affecting public broadcasting: “Trump and Republicans are clawing back $1.1B from public broadcasting — Congressionally appropriated $ that was just passed in March. This will shut down news stations, cancel educational programming for kids, and end critical weather alerts. I’m a HELL NO.”
Jayapal’s comments come amid broader national discussions about government transparency regarding high-profile investigations and debates over federal spending priorities. Her advocacy reflects her role as a vocal progressive in Congress.
Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal previously served in the Washington State Senate before being elected to Congress. She holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
