U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district since 2017, recently addressed issues ranging from the alleged politicization of national parks to her observations on the humanitarian crisis in Cuba, according to a series of posts on her official Twitter account.
On May 4, Jayapal posted: “ICYMI: Trump is acting like an authoritarian, putting his face on buildings, our money, and even on America the Beautiful passes. This is an unacceptable politicization of our National Parks and also violates the law. I’m supporting efforts to challenge this in court.” She did not provide further details regarding specific legal actions but stated her support for challenging these measures.
Later that evening, she announced plans for a public event in Seattle: “Tonight, I’m hosting a briefing in Seattle on my Congressional delegation to Cuba. Tune in live:” The following day, Jayapal reported on the outcome of this event, writing: “Last night, I hosted a briefing to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Cuba and what I saw on my recent Congressional delegation to the country. Thank you to panelists Cindy Domingo and Deb Goldman for an important discussion, and to all who came out to learn more.”
Jayapal’s comments come as part of her ongoing work as a member of Congress representing Washington’s 7th District—a position she has held since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. Before joining Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in 1986 and earned another degree from Northwestern University in 1990.
