U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on July 17, 2025, criticizing former President Donald Trump and the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under his administration.

In her first tweet at 13:05 UTC, Jayapal addressed claims about Social Security taxes, stating: “Trump is LYING (shocker, I know). His Big Bad Betrayal does NOT eliminate taxes on Social Security.”

Later that day at 14:35 UTC, she commented on immigration enforcement practices: “Trump’s ICE is terrorizing the immigrant community. Not just undocumented immigrants — U.S. citizens, folks with legal status, and those who have been here for decades, contributing to our country. It must stop.”

At 15:43 UTC, Jayapal announced legislative action in response to these concerns: “I introduced the Stop ICE From Kidnapping U.S. Citizens Act to protect Americans from Trump’s secret police. ICE is a rogue agency going after people with legal status and U.S. citizens, denying them due process, and cutting off access to attorneys. Congress must act.”

Pramila Jayapal has served as the representative for Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
