U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently posted a series of tweets addressing issues ranging from U.S. energy policy to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

On August 10, 2025, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic policies, stating, “Remember when Trump said he was going to lower costs on day one? He lied. Between his reckless tariffs and slashing of clean energy investments, Americans’ energy bills will skyrocket.” The following day, she commented on rising consumer prices with another post: “Donald Trump is making your coffee more expensive.”

Jayapal also addressed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a tweet dated August 11, 2025. She wrote, “The Israeli military has killed more than 200 journalists and media workers. The latest strike killed 5 journalists including a prominent Al Jazeera journalist. The US must stop providing weapons for this genocide.”

Pramila Jayapal was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Before her tenure in Congress began in 2017—succeeding Jim McDermott—she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
