U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on August 12, 2025, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s recent policy actions on climate change, labor rights for veterans at the VA, and tariffs.

In her first post of the day, Jayapal stated: “WA has been on the frontlines of the fight against climate change for decades, and so much of that important work is being erased by Trump. We will not stand by and allow him to destroy our planet.” (August 12, 2025).

Later that afternoon, she addressed changes affecting Department of Veterans Affairs employees: “Last week, Trump ended collective bargaining for nearly every VA employee — many of whom are veterans. All this does is hurt workers and veterans who served this country.” (August 12, 2025).

Her third tweet focused on economic impacts from new trade policies: “As Trump’s reckless tariffs take effect, YOU will be paying more for these everyday items and more. The American people are footing the bill for Trump’s trade war.” (August 12, 2025).

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
