Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, posted a series of statements on August 11, 2025, criticizing former President Donald Trump and Republican policies.

In her first post at 16:11 UTC, Jayapal wrote, “This is an authoritarian takeover, plain and simple. Trump is grabbing power like a dictator, and he won’t stop with DC — your state or city will be next.

DC deserves autonomy and statehood.”

Later that day at 20:32 UTC, she addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s case by stating, “Today would be a great day for Donald Trump to release the Epstein files.”

At 23:44 UTC on the same day, Jayapal commented on recent legislative proposals by Republicans: “NEW ANALYSIS: Trump and Republicans’ Big Bad Betrayal Law will decrease income for the poorest Americans by $1,200 per year and increase it for the richest by $13,600.

The largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in American history.”

Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
