U.S. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district and has served in Congress since 2017, used her social media platform to comment on recent U.S. actions regarding Venezuela and other topics.
On January 3, 2026, Jayapal questioned the role of former President Donald Trump in determining Venezuela’s political future. She posted: “So now Trump is going to decide who the next leader of Venezuela should be, not the people of Venezuela?
Reminder: Machado was the unity opposition candidate chosen by the Venezuelan people in the last election–and won the Nobel Peace Prize (which Trump will never do).”
Later that day, she further criticized Trump’s foreign policy approach with another post stating: “Trump promised to get the U.S. out of wars — he lied.
He has now plunged us into conflict in Venezuela, enacting regime change with no plan for what comes next. This is all about oil, greed, and power — and will come at a great cost to the American people.” Both posts were published on January 3, 2026.
The following day, Jayapal congratulated a local sports team, posting: “Congrats to our Seattle Seahawks! Let’s go! “ on January 4, 2026.
Pramila Jayapal was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Before joining Congress in 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
