U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has served Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently posted a series of tweets criticizing former President Donald Trump’s influence over the Department of Justice (DOJ) and his immigration policies.
On March 26, 2026, Jayapal stated, “Trump is trying to use the DOJ as his own personal law firm — putting his cronies in positions of power and ousting anyone who tries to hold him accountable. And yet Republicans are pushing to give Trump even more unchecked power over the DOJ. It’s ridiculous.”
Later that day, she addressed the impact of Trump’s immigration enforcement actions on children, posting, “Trump’s mass deportation campaign has caused incredible harm and trauma to children. We need to fight back. Tomorrow, I will be hosting a shadow hearing with experts, advocates, and those directly impacted to demand accountability and justice.” She included a link for viewers to watch the event.
In another post on March 26, Jayapal wrote about family separations under Trump-era policies: “Trump promised to go after the ‘worst of the worst.’ Instead, he has jailed kids and separated families, forever traumatizing them. Our kids deserve better and we won’t stop fighting back.”
Pramila Jayapal succeeded Jim McDermott in Congress in 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
