U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has posted a series of statements on social media criticizing former President Donald Trump’s recent actions and policies.

On August 18, 2025, Jayapal alleged that Trump is undermining the democratic process. She wrote, “Trump is working to make it harder to vote. This is nothing more than another authoritarian act meant to weaken our democracy.”

The following day, on August 19, 2025, Jayapal addressed threats reportedly made by Trump and Bondi toward Washington State. She stated, “Washington State won’t stand for threats from Trump and Bondi. We will continue to stand up for immigrants and their families.”

Later on August 19, she criticized Trump’s economic policies. In her post she said, “From reckless tariffs and trade wars to policies that fuel inflation and give corporations license to jack up costs — Trump is making your kid’s lunch more expensive.”

Jayapal has served as the U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
