U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, raised concerns on social media about U.S. military spending and recent events involving Iran.
On March 12, 2026, Jayapal questioned federal budget priorities by posting: “$11.3 billion on war for Iran, but tell me again how we don’t have enough money for health care.”
Shortly after, she shared a story about the treatment of a veteran by federal authorities: “‘In that moment, I believed I might not survive.’ Ed Higgins is a veteran and a US citizen — yet he was still brutalized by federal immigration agents.” This tweet highlights concerns over the actions of immigration enforcement toward U.S. citizens.
Later the same day, Jayapal commented on civilian casualties in Iran: “A strike on an Iranian school killed 175 people, mostly children. Trump tried to blame it on Iran, but a preliminary inquiry shows that it was the US. Our tax dollars are killing children. We need answers and accountability for this atrocity, and an immediate stop to this war.”
Pramila Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after previously holding office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott as representative of Washington’s 7th district and resides in Seattle. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal is also an alumna of Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
