U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on April 15, 2026, criticizing the federal tax system and its impact on average Americans.
In her first post of the day, Jayapal wrote: “Trump’s budget director couldn’t answer how much the average American pays in federal income taxes. They don’t care that while Americans can’t afford health care or gas, the largest corporations paid ZERO in federal taxes and we’re wasting billions on illegal wars.” (April 15, 2026)
Later that evening, she continued her critique: “This country’s tax system is built to favor those at the top and squeeze every last dime out of those at the bottom. It’s time for a change to this rigged system.” (April 15, 2026)
Jayapal concluded with a message focused on Tax Day: “This Tax Day, Americans across the country are sending money to an administration that is turning around and using that $ for illegal wars and tax breaks for the rich. It’s a broken system that we must urgently reform.” (April 15, 2026)
Pramila Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in what was then Madras State in India in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
