Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, made several statements on her official Twitter account on May 20, 2026, addressing issues related to wealth inequality, political responsibility, and proposed legislation affecting naturalized citizens.

In a post at 14:40 UTC on May 20, Jayapal wrote: “Nobody should be a trillionaire. Tax the damn rich.”

Later that day at 16:15 UTC, she commented on political developments by stating: “Republicans created the monster in the White House.”

At 16:28 UTC, Jayapal addressed recent legislative efforts by Rep. Nancy Mace regarding restrictions on government service for naturalized citizens. She wrote: “Nancy Mace’s legislation to ban naturalized citizens from government service is hateful, it is insulting to our country’s history, and it is rooted in racism. I call on all my colleagues — including my Republican colleagues who are naturalized citizens — to condemn this.”

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
