U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, made a series of posts on January 7 and 8, 2026, criticizing the Trump administration’s statements regarding an ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis.
On January 7, Jayapal posted: “Everything the Trump administration is saying about the ICE shooting in Minneapolis is a LIE. The woman did NOT “weaponize her vehicle.” She did NOT “attempt to run over law enforcement officers.” She was trying to drive away from the scene. ICE shot and killed her.”
Later that day, she added: “This is lie after lie after lie from the President — a completely dishonest description of ICE shooting and killing a woman in Minneapolis. Truly disgusting.”
The following day, Jayapal continued her criticism by stating: “What happened in Minneapolis today was absolutely horrific. ICE is not making our communities safer — they are putting innocent lives in harm’s way. We must put a stop to this.”
Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
