U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, used her social media platform on October 14, 2025, to criticize the lack of response from Arizona Republican leaders to violent rhetoric and to address ongoing partisan divides in Congress.

In a post made at 15:17 UTC, Jayapal wrote, “How is this individual still in elected office? For all the calls for civility and de-escalation, not a single Republican elected leader in AZ has spoken out against his dangerous call for me to be hanged or his other violent rhetoric. This should not be normalized. There needs”.

Later that day, at 17:38 UTC, she commented on legislative gridlock and healthcare policy by stating, “Americans across this country — in blue, red, and purple districts — want Congress to protect health care and stop costs from skyrocketing.

Democrats are at the table, ready to negotiate. But Republicans are too busy on their vacation. https://t.co/XSAKITUmsz“.

At 18:37 UTC the same day, Jayapal posted a brief criticism of the Republican Party under former President Donald Trump’s influence: “Welcome to Trump’s Republican Party. Disgusting. https://t.co/n5R3yrnFc8”.

Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th district since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before joining Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
