U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, shared a series of posts on social media between February 6 and 7, 2026, highlighting her support for local sports teams and voicing opinions on immigration’s impact on the U.S. economy.
On February 6, Jayapal made a public wager with a congressional colleague over the upcoming Super Bowl, stating: “I’m so confident that our Seattle Seahawks will beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl that I’m making a friendly bet with my colleague @RepMcGovern from MA! Let’s go Seahawks!!!” The same day, she posted about her enthusiasm for athletes from Washington competing in the Winter Olympics: “So excited to cheer on all of the talented athletes from my home state of WA during the Winter Olympics!”
The following day, Jayapal addressed economic arguments about immigration. In her February 7 post, she wrote: “Republicans love to say that immigrants hurt our economy. The truth is that they pay trillions more in taxes than they receive in any sort of benefits. Immigrants contribute so much to this country, including to our economy.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras), India in 1965, she currently resides in Seattle. Her academic background includes degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
