Rep. Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, addressed a range of legislative and social issues in a series of posts on December 4, 2025.
In her first post, Jayapal announced the introduction of new legislation focused on artificial intelligence and civil rights. On December 4, she stated: “I was proud to stand with @SenMarkey, @RepYvetteClarke, @RepSummerLee, & @RepPressley to introduce our AI Civil Rights Act. As giant corporations & billionaires use algorithms to discriminate against people like you & me, Congress must pass this legislation to protect Americans.”
Later that day, Jayapal highlighted scientific research efforts in Seattle related to HIV/AIDS and criticized former President Donald Trump for funding cuts. She wrote: “Scientists in Seattle are on the frontlines of the groundbreaking research to cure HIV/AIDS. Meanwhile, Trump has slashed funding for science and research across the country. We must restore this funding to save lives.”
In another post addressing immigration policy and rhetoric from political opponents, Jayapal said: “Being undocumented is NOT a crime. And despite the endless stream of xenophobic and racist rhetoric from Trump and Republicans, the vast majority of immigrants — both documented and undocumented — contribute to America in more ways than we could imagine.”
Jayapal has served as Washington’s 7th District representative since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
