U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on December 18, 2025, expressing concern over deaths in ICE facilities and criticizing recent actions by House Republicans.

In her first tweet at 17:30 UTC, Jayapal wrote: “Within 15 minutes today, I got two back-to-back notifications of deaths at ICE facilities. 28 people have died in ICE custody since Trump took office. These facilities are overcrowded & are putting their own profits over health and safety. We need oversight & accountability NOW.”

An hour and a half later, at 19:01 UTC, she updated followers with another message: “In the 90 minutes since I posted this, I’ve gotten two more death notifications. ICE has a responsibility to take care of these people, something they are clearly disregarding. This is beyond horrifying. We must ensure dignity and humanity for detained people in this country.”

Later that evening at 19:54 UTC, Jayapal commented on congressional activity regarding trans rights and economic issues: “As prices skyrocket and Trump does nothing to lower them, Republicans took to the House floor today to instead cruelly attack trans kids. Why are they so intent on increasing hatred and fear and stopping these children from living their lives? It’s awful.”

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in the U.S. Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016 and was born in Chennai in 1965 before moving to Seattle where she currently resides. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
