Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently highlighted her efforts to secure funding for community services and voiced concerns about federal budget priorities in a series of posts on X.
On April 18, 2026, Jayapal posted about her work to support local food security initiatives: “In 2024, I secured $800K for Vashon Community Food Bank for their new food bank and community resource hub to serve more people in need. They are doing incredibly important work to provide for our neighbors as costs continue to rise, and I’m proud to support it.”
Later that day, she questioned national spending priorities by posting: “Imagine if we invested in childcare and health care like we do in war and weapons.” This statement was made on April 18, 2026.
On April 19, 2026, Jayapal addressed issues of fraud within the Department of Defense while criticizing proposed cuts to social programs: “There is billions in confirmed fraud within the Department of Defense, yet Trump and Vought are going after health care, childcare, and nutrition assistance. As Congress puts together the 2027 budget, we must fight back.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in Congress in 2017. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in India in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
