Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from homelessness policy to government transparency and recent national developments.
On August 14, 2025, Jayapal posted about homelessness and federal policy, stating: “Being unhoused is not a crime. Clearing encampments and locking people up will do nothing to solve the real problem of homelessness. My Housing Not Handcuffs Act would stop these actions on federal land. Congress must pass it.”
Later that day, she commented on several current events involving former President Donald Trump and other national issues: “Trump’s authoritarian DC takeover, new insane tariffs, a win for birthright citizenship, and a subpoena on the Epstein files. Here are 3 bad things and 3 good things you need to know from the past week to stay engaged and keep resisting!”
On August 15, Jayapal addressed concerns about the handling of Ghislaine Maxwell’s incarceration: “NEW: Along with my @HouseJudiciary Dem colleagues, I’m demanding answers from the Trump administration about their sudden decision to transfer Ghislaine Maxwell to a minimum-security prison camp. No more covering up. No more lies. Release the Epstein files and give us the truth.”
Jayapal’s advocacy on these topics comes as part of her broader legislative work in Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
