U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on July 19, 2025, addressing issues related to public broadcasting funding, Democratic priorities, and the recent Republican-led rescissions package.
In her first tweet of the day at 03:13 UTC, Jayapal expressed gratitude toward her Seattle constituents for their support of public broadcasting: “Thank you Seattle! So grateful for the generosity of this district toward our public broadcasting! Thinking now of all the rural Radio/TV stations don’t have this kind of funding to fill the GOP cruelty gap.”
Later that afternoon at 15:12 UTC, she emphasized the importance of proactive advocacy by Democrats: “Democrats can’t just talk about what we’re against — we also have to fight FOR the country we deserve. An affordable America, free of corruption and the billionaire establishment, that actually puts working families first.”
In a subsequent post at 16:34 UTC, Jayapal criticized recent legislative actions taken by House Republicans regarding budget cuts: “The rescissions package that Republicans just passed is a stunning destruction of disease prevention and the lifesaving work that USAID does for people globally and right here at home.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal is currently based in Seattle. She earned her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1986 and completed further studies at Northwestern University in 1990.
