Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several legislative and policy issues on her social media account.
On December 10, 2025, Jayapal criticized Republican stances on health care affordability, stating: “But Trump and Republicans want to tell Americans that we can’t afford health care…”
Later the same day, she announced new legislative efforts targeting artificial intelligence practices. In a post dated December 11, 2025, Jayapal wrote: “ICYMI: My colleagues and I introduced legislation that would put guardrails in place to ensure that AI companies stop using discriminatory algorithms. We will not allow the technologies of the future to harden the injustices of the past.”
Continuing her focus on health care policy, Jayapal warned about an impending deadline for congressional action regarding Affordable Care Act subsidies. On December 11, 2025, she posted: “Congress has just 7 voting days left to pass an extension on the expiring ACA subsidies. Time is running out. Republicans must join us and act to save health care for millions of Americans.”
Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and resides in Seattle. Her academic background includes degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
