U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, shared updates on her recent activities in Seattle through a series of posts on May 9, 2026.

On May 9, Jayapal posted about preparations at Lumen Field for the upcoming World Cup: “This week, I toured Lumen Field to see the transit, accessibility, and security upgrades in advance of the World Cup. So much intention and planning goes into an event like this. Seattle is prepared — and so excited — to welcome people across the world for these games!”

Later that day, she highlighted her visit to a scientific institution and recognized a Nobel Prize achievement: “It was great to visit @isbsci to tour their labs, hear about their groundbreaking work, and recognize Mary Brunkow’s achievement of the Nobel Prize!” The mention underscores support for local scientific research and international recognition earned by researchers in her district.

In another post on May 9, Jayapal thanked participants at a congressional hearing addressing immigration policy: “Thank you to the incredible witnesses who gave brave and powerful testimony at my hearing on Trump’s attacks on TPS. Together, we will continue to stand up to Trump’s mass deportation agenda and fight for an immigration system that actually works.”

Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott; prior to that she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014-2016. She was born in Chennai (formerly Madras), India in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
