U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on August 27, 2025, addressing issues ranging from authoritarian governance to data security and gun violence.

In an early morning post, Jayapal wrote: “A dictator’s playbook:
silence dissent
fire whistle blowers
arrest opponents
decimate safety net agencies
transfer wealth from people to dictator & billionaire cronies”
(August 27, 2025).

Later that day, she criticized former President Donald Trump regarding data security concerns: “Trump let DOGE employees put your Social Security Number at risk on a vulnerable server.

Completely unacceptable and a betrayal of Americans’ trust.” (August 27, 2025).

In another tweet the same afternoon, Jayapal expressed condolences following an incident in Minneapolis and commented on the frequency of school shootings in the United States: “My thoughts are with all those grieving in Minneapolis today.

The United States continues to be the ONLY COUNTRY where school shootings are a regular occurrence. We must stop this epidemic of gun violence and finally put the lives of our kids first.” (August 27, 2025).

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in Congress in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
