Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently voiced concerns on social media regarding federal policies and their impact on her constituents.

On August 5, 2025, Jayapal wrote: “Trump and Republicans’ Big Bad Betrayal is already hurting our communities. 170,000 people in WA are at risk of losing access to food assistance. All to give billionaires a tax break.” She cited the potential loss of food assistance for thousands in Washington as a result of recent policy changes.

Later that day, she commented on actions taken by former President Trump regarding federal labor statistics: “Trump fired the Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner because he said the jobs numbers were ‘rigged.’ That was a lie. The disappointing jobs numbers are a result of his bad economic policies & this unjust firing only weakens trust in our institutions.”

In another post, Jayapal highlighted congressional oversight efforts: “NEW: After Democrats forced a vote, the House Oversight Committee has officially issued a subpoena to Trump’s Justice Department. They must turn over the Epstein files to Congress by August 19. We will keep fighting for the transparency and honesty Americans deserve.”

Jayapal has served in Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, she currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
