U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on December 9, 2025, addressing concerns about the Supreme Court, immigration detention practices under the Trump administration, and U.S. foreign policy regarding Sudan.
In her first post at 00:01 UTC, Jayapal wrote: “The right-wing Supreme Court majority is planning to hand Trump even more power — destroying our checks & balances and putting democracy in danger. America doesn’t have kings. We cannot let this authoritarian administration take over the entire government.”
Later that morning at 02:00 UTC, she commented on immigration enforcement practices: “73% of people detained by ICE have NO CRIMINAL RECORD. The Trump admin is throwing every immigrant they can find into detention centers, many of which have reports of denied medical care, rotten food, and unsanitary conditions. It is not okay and we cannot allow it to continue.”
Addressing international issues at 02:55 UTC the same day, Jayapal stated: “This is absolutely horrifying. The United States must push for an arms embargo on Sudan, work to get more aid into the country, and use our power and leverage to save countless lives.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
