U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on her social media account addressing concerns over government program funding, immigration detention deaths, and the use of private prison companies under the Trump administration.
On December 6, 2025, Jayapal stated: “Republicans want to slash programs across the government and make sure there’s no way for future administrations to fund them. That means programs like Medicare and Social Security would be on the chopping block.”
Later that day, she addressed issues regarding immigration detention deaths: “23 people have died in immigration detention this year under the Trump administration, and ICE seems to be lying about the circumstances. They told Congress that Chaofeng Ge died by suicide, but he was found with his hands and feet tied. That simply doesn’t add up.”
On December 7, 2025, Jayapal highlighted her legislative efforts: “My Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act establishes real standards for immigrant detention and phases out for-profit facilities. This corrupt administration shouldn’t be allowed to funnel billions of dollars to private prisons companies who donated millions to Trump’s campaign.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott as U.S. Congress member for her district. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal is currently based in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
