U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on December 10, 2025, addressing issues related to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention practices and federal defense spending.
In her first post of the day, Jayapal wrote: “Dr. Badar Khan Suri was unjustly detained and disappeared and experienced absolutely horrific treatment while in ICE detention. Listen to his story: https://t.co/ltVC1X0g67” (December 10, 2025).
Later that evening, she reported another fatality in ICE custody: “I’ve now been notified of another death in ICE custody — the 26th since Trump took office in January. We need oversight, accountability, and justice. I will keep fighting for the dignity of immigrants in Trump’s horrific detention centers. https://t.co/clyFAt6K3m” (December 10, 2025).
Jayapal also commented on military funding decisions made by Congress that same day: “I just voted NO on handing more than $890 billion to the Pentagon — the only federal agency that has NEVER passed an audit. I cannot support pouring taxpayer dollars into the military industrial complex while American families can’t afford food or health care. https://t.co/0zthd6GuVN” (December 10, 2025).
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott as representative for the district. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
