Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has issued a series of statements on social media voicing her opposition to further funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) without increased oversight.
On January 20, 2026, Jayapal posted, “I will not vote to send another cent to ICE and CBP without significant guardrails and accountability measures in place. Congress must stand up to protect communities across this country.”
Later that day, she addressed concerns regarding reports of immigration enforcement activity in her home city: “My office is aware of unverified reports of ICE activity in the Seattle area. We are monitoring the situation and will share information as we learn more. Please stay safe, everyone.” This message was posted at 22:08 UTC.
By 22:53 UTC on January 20, Jayapal reiterated her stance on federal funding for immigration agencies, writing: “As this administration continues to send masked agents to terrorize our cities, I will not vote to give another cent to ICE and CBP until we have real, enforceable guardrails in place. My full statement on the DHS funding bill “
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai, India in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
