Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, shared a series of updates on her official social media account between April 9 and April 10, 2026.
On April 9, Jayapal recounted an encounter with a constituent who had served in Afghanistan. She stated: “I met with one of my constituents who bravely served in Afghanistan, and he did me the incredible honor of presenting me with his ribbon rack. He and the people he served with have seen forever wars their entire lives. It is time for these needless, thoughtless wars to end.” (April 9, 2026)
Later that evening, she announced her ongoing engagement with local residents through town halls. On April 10, Jayapal posted: “TONIGHT: I’m hosting my 130th town hall! If you’re not able to join in person, tune in live!” (April 10, 2026)
The following day, she commented on recent economic developments linked to international conflict. She wrote: “Biggest increase in inflation in 4 years. Biggest monthly increase in gas prices in 60 years. Trump’s war in Iran is costing Americans big here at home.” (April 10, 2026)
Jayapal has been serving as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017; prior to her congressional service she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in India in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
