U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently used her social media platform to address several national policy issues, including military funding and immigration enforcement.

On May 16, 2026, Jayapal posted opposition to additional military spending, stating: “As the Pentagon continues an illegal war that has killed thousands of civilians and wasted billions of taxpayer dollars, I will absolutely NOT be voting for any new funding package. We must continue to introduce War Power Resolutions until we can stop this war.”

Later the same day, she criticized Republican proposals related to immigration enforcement funding: “Republicans want to force local and state law enforcement to comply with federal mass deportation policies by threatening to cut off billions in funding. This will NOT work and is a dangerous threat.”

On May 17, Jayapal addressed legal challenges against former President Trump’s immigration agenda: “There have been 10,000 rulings against Trump’s mass deportation agenda. ICE is not above the law — and the courts have reaffirmed that in nearly 90% of cases.”

Jayapal’s remarks come as she continues her tenure as a U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District—a position she has held since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. Before joining Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
