Providence Mount St. Vincent registered as King County’s top nursing home by bed count in the first quarter of 2026, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The nursing facility had 215 beds available during this period, exceeding the King County average by 107 beds in the first quarter of 2026. It served an average of 181 residents during that time.

Providence Mount St. Vincent received a 2-out-of-5 overall CMS rating, below the statewide average of 3.3 for nursing centers in Washington.

The Broadview Center was the next largest, offering 211 beds, while Caroline Kline Galland Home followed in third with 205 available beds in King County during the same quarter.

Providence Mount St. Vincent incurred two fines totaling $87,454 and received two penalties as of the first quarter of 2026.

King County, Washington, had a total of 14 non-profit nursing homes during this period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the older adult population is rising across the country as numbers decline among younger groups. Between 2020 and 2024, the population of Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The older adult population has seen significant growth in the last 100 years, climbing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study determined that nearly 50% of older adults, about 28 million people, could require long-term services and assistance. The analysis also forecasts that more than one-third may eventually depend on nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
