The Seattle Redhawks women’s tennis team claimed the doubles point against Santa Clara on March 22 but ultimately lost the match 6-1 in their first West Coast Conference contest.

The doubles matches saw Lamija Avdic and Natalia Michta overcome a 4-0 deficit, winning six straight games to defeat Dong and Katz of Santa Clara, 6-4. The pair’s comeback, along with a convincing 6-3 win by Daria Nazarenko and Amina Avdic over Dimitrova and Rahman, secured the only point for Seattle University in the match.

Despite this early success, the Redhawks were unable to carry momentum into singles play. Santa Clara swept all six singles matches. Notably, Amina Avdic pushed her opponent Krumholz to three sets before narrowly losing in a tiebreaker with scores of 4-6, 6-4, and 1-0 (10-8). Lamija Avdic also challenged her opponent but was defeated by Dimitrova after a close first set.

This contest marked Seattle U’s third match of the week following losses to Idaho and Montana State earlier on Wednesday and Thursday. During this stretch, Nazarenko and Amina Avdic remained undefeated as a doubles pair, including a decisive victory over Idaho’s top duo.

Looking ahead, the Redhawks are scheduled to continue conference play on March 29 when they travel to Los Angeles to face Loyola Marymount.
