Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently made several statements on her social media account regarding constitutional rights and U.S. foreign policy actions.
On January 2, 2026, Jayapal emphasized the importance of warrants for surveillance within the United States. She stated, “If an FBI agent wants to conduct surveillance of a person in the United States, they need to get a warrant — period. This isn’t ‘too much oversight.’ It’s our Fourth Amendment right.”
The following day, she addressed former President Donald Trump’s reported actions concerning Venezuela. On January 3, 2026, Jayapal posted her full statement on these events: “My full statement on Trump’s illegal actions in Venezuela to kidnap a foreign leader, force regime change, and his plans to indefinitely occupy Venezuela:” The same day, she further commented on Trump’s intentions by stating: “Donald Trump can’t run America, but now he wants to run Venezuela. Congress alone has the power to authorize war. This is unconstitutional, illegal, and not what the American people want.”
Pramila Jayapal succeeded Jim McDermott in Congress and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
