Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, addressed several issues on her Twitter account on February 13, 2026, ranging from concerns about surveillance of Congress members to immigration policy under the Trump administration.
In one post, Jayapal raised alarms about privacy violations during a Judiciary hearing: “Important thread from @LizaGoitein that reminds us of history. Pam Bondi came into the Judiciary hearing with a printout of my history of searches on the Epstein files. This is spying on Members of Congress, full stop. Later that day, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to immigration enforcement and citizenship status: “The idea that Trump is creating quotas for denaturalization is a gross abuse of power that should scare every single American.
Republicans used to pretend they were for legal immigration, but now they are working to strip citizenship from Americans for no reason.” (February 13, 2026).
Jayapal also highlighted the story of Alejandro Barranco and his family’s experience with immigration enforcement: “‘It’s not right. And it’s not something that I would have ever thought I would have lived.’
Alejandro Barranco is a U.S. Marine. His father was beaten and detained by immigration agents while at work. Listen to his telling of the impact this had on him and his community.” (February 13, 2026).
Pramila Jayapal has served in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
