Washington junior point guard Sayvia Sellers has been named a Regional Finalist for the Coaches’ All-America Team, according to an announcement on March 18. The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) will announce the final 10-member All-America Team in early April.
Sellers is the first Washington player to be selected to the WBCA All-Region Team since Kelsey Plum and Chantel Osahor in the 2016-17 season. Her selection comes after a standout year where she was also named to the All-Big Ten First Team and helped lead the Huskies to a six-seed in the NCAA Tournament, marking their first season with more than 20 wins since 2016-17.
This season, Sellers has averaged a career-high 18.5 points per game and contributed 3.7 assists per game. She has twice earned USBWA Player of the Week honors, including after scoring a career-best 38 points in a win against No. 16 Maryland. Sellers also recorded significant performances such as scoring 29 points at Oregon, which improved Washington’s Big Ten Tournament seeding.
Against Associated Press-ranked opponents or teams receiving votes, Sellers is averaging nearly 19 points per game along with almost four assists and close to two steals over ten games. She has scored at least ten points in each of those contests while shooting over 43 percent from the field.
Sellers reached her 1,000th career point earlier this year against Northwestern and enters the NCAA Tournament with more than 1,300 career points and over 300 assists. She is one of only two qualified Big Ten players shooting at least 48 percent from the field and at least 35 percent from three-point range.
Washington will face South Dakota State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 20 at TCU’s Schollmaier Arena. The game is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. PT tip-off and will air on ESPN News.
