Seattle Sounders FC lost 2-0 to Tigres UANL in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals on April 8 at Estadio Universitario. The match saw two second-half goals from the home team, putting Seattle at a disadvantage as they prepare for the return fixture.

The result is significant as it concludes an eight-match stretch away from Lumen Field for Seattle due to preparations for the FIFA World Cup at their home stadium. The club managed a record of five wins, two losses, and one draw during this period. The second leg will take place in Seattle on April 15.

Tigres opened scoring with Ozziel Herrera netting a goal assisted by Fernando Gorriarán in the 51st minute. An own goal by Jackson Ragen in the 76th minute doubled Tigres’ lead. Attendance was recorded at 37,641 under cloudy skies and temperatures of 66 degrees.

Seattle’s all-time record against Liga MX opponents now stands at twelve wins, thirteen losses, and six draws. Against Tigres specifically, Seattle has two wins and two losses. In Concacaf Champions Cup play overall, Seattle holds twenty-four wins, seventeen losses, and twelve draws.

Paul Rothrock marked his hundredth appearance across all competitions for Seattle during this match after re-signing with the club earlier this year. Head Coach Brian Schmetzer made four changes to his starting lineup compared to their previous game against Houston on April 4.

Looking ahead, both teams will meet again for the decisive second leg in Seattle on April 15 as Sounders FC seek to overturn their deficit.
