The Seattle Storm selected Spanish center Awa Fam with the third overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, according to an April 13 announcement.

The selection of Fam is significant as she brings international experience and youth to the team. Her addition is seen as a key move for the future of the franchise.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Awa to Seattle,” said Storm General Manager Talisa Rhea. “We’ve been watching Awa emerge as one of the most dynamic young talents in the world. She’s already gained valuable experience competing professionally internationally and has tremendous upside. Awa will be an important part of our future and what we’re building in Seattle.”

Fam currently plays for Valencia Basket in Spain, having signed with them at age 15, making her the youngest athlete in team history. She has played in 39 games during the 2025-26 EuroLeague and Liga Femenina Endesa tournaments, averaging 8.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game this season. Her best performance came on October 16, 2025 against Fenerbahçe Opet when she scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals while shooting over sixty percent from the field.

Standing six-foot-four, Fam has represented Spain at both youth and senior national levels. Over four years with Spain’s youth teams she competed in six tournaments including a notable showing at the 2022 FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship where she averaged double figures in both points and rebounds. She also played two years for Spain’s Senior National Team across three tournaments.

The Storm encouraged fans seeking more information or tickets for the upcoming season to visit their official website or call their ticket office.
