The Seattle Storm announced on Apr. 14 the selection of Taina Mair from Duke University and Grace VanSlooten from Michigan State University in the second and third rounds of the 2026 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Draft.
The announcement is significant for the team’s roster development as both players bring strong collegiate records to Seattle. Their selection adds depth and talent to the Storm’s lineup ahead of the upcoming season.
Mair, a 5-foot-9 guard, was named Most Valuable Player at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament in 2026. During her three seasons with Duke, she averaged 9.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. In her earlier college career at Boston College, she earned ACC All-Freshman honors after leading all freshmen in several statistical categories including double-doubles and assists.
VanSlooten played two seasons at Michigan State where she led her team in scoring both years and averaged 15.1 points per game as a senior while shooting fifty percent from the field. She also posted seven rebounds per game during her time as a Spartan and was named Second-Team All-Big Ten in both years with Michigan State. Before transferring to Michigan State, VanSlooten spent two years at Oregon where she received Pac-12 Honorable Mention recognition twice.
Both athletes were highly decorated before joining their college teams; Mair led her high school to three championships while VanSlooten was recognized as a McDonald’s All-American out of Toledo, Ohio.
