The Seattle Storm announced on May 6 the signing of guard Taina Mair, the No. 14 overall pick in the 2026 Women’s National Basketball Association Draft, to one of the team’s two player development roster spots.
This move is significant as it adds depth to the Storm’s roster and provides an opportunity for a recent draft pick to develop within the organization.
Mair participated in both preseason games for Seattle, averaging 2.0 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. She led the team in assists during both contests, with her nine total assists accounting for 22 points. Mair also posted a plus-minus average of 10.5, which was the highest among all Seattle players. In an April 29 matchup against Portland Fire, she went two-for-two from the free throw line.
A native of Boston, Mair played her final three collegiate seasons at Duke University where she was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player in 2026 and averaged 9.4 points, 4.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game that season. In her previous year at Duke, she led her program in assists with a total of 134 and ranked second on her team in three-point percentage (37.8%) and steals (55). Before transferring to Duke, Mair played one season at Boston College where she started every game and averaged double figures in scoring along with leading all ACC freshmen in several statistical categories including double-doubles and minutes per game.
The addition of Mair reflects ongoing efforts by Seattle Storm to invest in young talent through its player development program as it prepares for future seasons.
