Seattle University softball secured an 8-0 victory over Saint Mary’s on April 12, ending the game in six innings at Logan Field. Senior Taylor Fitch hit a walk-off double to clinch the win for the Redhawks, who improved their record to 18-21 overall and 4-2 in West Coast Conference play.

The result marks Seattle U’s first conference win over Saint Mary’s this season and its second shutout of the year. The game was notable for strong offensive performances and solid pitching, highlighting both individual achievements and team effort.

Junior Avari Morris led the Redhawks with three hits in as many at-bats, extending her hitting streak to five games. Morris also stole three bases, setting a new personal best and achieving the most steals by a Redhawk since Nicole Bolasky set the single-game record with four in 2018. Three other players had multi-hit games: graduate Jay Ross drove in two runs with singles; Fitch collected two hits including her decisive double; sophomore Abbie Fales hit her fourth home run of the season; junior Karen Spadafora added her eighth homer.

Freshman pitcher Kaia Galaviz threw a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits while striking out three batters across six innings. The Redhawks tallied eleven hits during the contest—marking their nineteenth game this year with ten or more hits—and recorded their first shutout since defeating BYU on February 27.

After close contests earlier in the series, Seattle U’s offense responded decisively against Saint Mary’s pitching staff. Defensive plays included double plays and key outs from left field by Morris that contributed to keeping runners off base.

The Redhawks will return to Logan Field next weekend for a three-game series against LMU.
