Seattle University softball lost both games of a doubleheader against Idaho State on March 21, with the Bengals winning 7-6 in 12 innings and 2-1 in regulation at Miller Ranch Stadium.
The closely contested matchups highlighted strong defensive play from both teams. The Redhawks were edged out by just one run in each game, demonstrating the competitive nature of the series.
In the first game, senior Taylor Fitch led Seattle University with four hits, including a home run, and five runs batted in. Fitch tied the program’s single-game record for hits, marking her second four-hit performance this season. Juniors Karen Spadafora and Avari Morris also contributed multiple hits, with Spadafora hitting a solo home run. Junior Mikee Morris scored two runs and led the team with three assists on defense. Pitchers Avari Morris and Berkley Vance combined for over eleven innings pitched, while graduate Jay Ross recorded eight putouts at first base.
The Redhawks took an early lead but saw Idaho State tie the game in the seventh inning before a walk-off home run ended it in the twelfth. In game two, Avari Morris again led offensively with two hits. Fitch scored Seattle University’s only run after Spadafora hit an RBI double. Freshman pitcher Kaia Galaviz allowed only two runs over six innings but could not prevent another narrow defeat.
The Redhawks will conclude their three-game series against Idaho State at Miller Ranch Stadium tomorrow at noon.
