Senior Taylor Fitch hit two home runs for Seattle University softball on March 26, but the Redhawks lost a close game 7-6 to Creighton in the opening matchup of a three-game series at Creighton Softball Stadium.

Fitch had three hits and drove in three runs during four at bats, becoming the second Redhawk this season to hit two home runs in one game. She matched senior Ava Sin, who accomplished the same feat against North Dakota earlier this year. It is only the 14th time in program history that a player has achieved two homers in a single contest.

Sophomore Abbie Fales also contributed with her second home run in as many games, finishing with two hits and scoring twice. Junior Sophia Kissling added two hits and led defensively from center field with four putouts. Juniors Karen Spadafora and Avari Morris each recorded doubles, while graduate Jay Ross posted a hit and scored once, matching Kissling’s four putouts from first base. Fitch led the team defensively with five assists from third base.

Freshman Kaia Galaviz started as pitcher for Seattle U, throwing three innings and facing 15 batters with one strikeout before junior Berkley Vance took over for the final three innings. The Redhawks tallied six runs on twelve hits while holding Creighton to eight hits over seven innings.

After both teams went scoreless in the first inning, Seattle U took an early lead but could not hold off Creighton’s comeback efforts through later innings. Despite Fitch’s late solo homer narrowing the gap to one run in the seventh inning, Creighton managed to secure victory by stalling Seattle U’s rally attempts.

The series continues tomorrow afternoon with game two scheduled for noon Pacific Time on ESPN+.
